The Ledger Breaker is a literary LGBTQ+ novella about boundaries, fear, and the fragile space between wanting and surviving. Some rules protect us. Others hold us back.
One wants it to mean nothing. One wants it to mean everything. Neither is willing to risk the fallout.
At Maplewood University, two college roommates are learning to live with more than just each other. Sam is closeted, cautious, and desperate for a safe first experience, something physical, not public. Jonah is fluent in casual sex, but emotionally guarded, trained to separate touch from feeling.
Sam wants the closeness without the consequences. Jonah wants the connection but can’t keep it casual when it’s Sam. What begins as curiosity turns into quiet conflict, where every step forward threatens the safety net each boy depends on.
An innocent arrangement begins to unravel when wanting becomes personal, and history refuses to stay buried. Some boundaries are there for a reason. Others are drawn in fear.

Novel & Novella Projects

– Beyond the Ledger (Not Yet Started)
A possible follow-up to The Ledger Breaker. Development will depend on reader response and feedback.
– What the Wild Cost Us (Slated for Q2 2026)
Set in the Alaskan wilderness in the 1970s, this novella follows a father and son making a life in harsh terrain until a nearly frozen teenage boy, the same age as the son, stumbles into their lives. The boys grow into men, taking over the homestead and building a life together.
– The Cooperverse Series (Book One: Summer 2026)
What if the person you were meant to save… ended up saving you?
A sweeping, emotionally intimate saga that explores queer love, chosen family, caregiving, and the cost of survival.
The series begins with Matthew Cooper, barely eighteen and fiercely is loyal thrust into the role of caregiver after a car crash nearly kills his best friend, Mitchell Johnson. As Mitchell heals, their friendship deepens, old secrets rise, and a fragile new bond forms.
Spanning five novels, The Cooperverse traces a decade of grief, growth, and resilience infused with dark humor, gut-punch tenderness, and chaos in the form of a precocious 7-year-old named Simon.
- Caregiver’s Guide to the Cooperverse – Matthew cares for Mitchell post-accident, and their bond transforms.
- Chaos Enters the Cooperverse – Simon, age 7, makes himself at home during Mitchell’s chemo stay.
- Stewards of the Cooperverse – Matthew balances caring for both Mitchell and mentoring Simon.
- Rebuilding the Cooperverse – With Mitchell gone and Simon’s mother imprisoned, Matthew adopts Simon.
- Legacy of the Cooperverse – Years later, Matthew is married, Simon is a big brother, and the next chapter of the Cooper legacy begins.
About the Author
Mostly, I write to give voice to people who aren’t always given one.
Jarin is a gay, opinionated secular humanist who writes emotionally sharp, character-driven fiction. With a dry sense of humor and a deep interest in what people believe and why, he explores what happens when characters are pushed beyond what they think they can handle.
His work prioritizes emotional depth over plot twists, focusing on conflict, trauma, and the slow unraveling of personal boundaries. He is more interested in how people respond to pressure than whether they succeed or fail, creating space for characters who are afraid, angry, hopeful, selfish, and human, while resisting easy resolutions.
The Ledger Breaker is his debut novella.
